History of HKS
2012 was our ‘30th anniversary’ year and we are very proud to have reached this milestone. Many of our staff have been with us for the majority of this time and we have designed and fitted thousands of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms during this period! Below is a brief history of the company.
Hastings Kitchen Showroom was opened in St.Leonards-on-Sea in 1982 by Tim and Alison Burgess (still Directors today) and was originally opened as a kitchen studio selling Mobalpa kitchens from France. The St. Leonard’s-on-Sea studio is still successfully trading with senior designer Chris Chantler running the showroom having worked for HKS virtually from the outset. Two years after opening, the adjacent shop was purchased and the company diversified into fitted bedrooms.
After 6 years of successful trading in St.Leonards-on-Sea the second showroom was opened in Heathfield in 1988 and the company diversified into quality bathrooms. The name was then changed to HKS Kitchens – Bedrooms – Bathrooms. Nigel Rawle is the Senior Designer at this showroom and he has been with HKS for over 25 years.
The Eastbourne showroom was the third HKS showroom to be opened in 1989. John Haining is the current Senior Designer at this showroom having also worked for HKS for over 25 years. Davina Keohane is the Showroom Manager and is currently in her 17th year with the company.
The HKS Haywards Heath showroom was opened in 1996 (see photo on right of the owners Tim and Alison Burgess outside the showroom on the official open day). Lloyd Burgess (son) and Gary Sparks are the Designers at this showroom today.
The last photo on the right of this page could not be left out! It is of our ‘10th year anniversary’ celebrations with some of our existing staff ……most have slightly less hair now!!!
